A Message from the President
Welcome to the Association of Emergency Physicians of Malta (AEPM).
It is a privilege to serve as President of an Association that has played an important role in the development of Emergency Medicine in Malta since its establishment in 2006.
Over the years, AEPM has worked to advance our specialty through education, training, scientific conferences, professional collaboration and engagement with the wider Emergency Medicine community. From contributing to the development of training standards to creating opportunities for knowledge-sharing and addressing the wellbeing of emergency physicians, successive councils and members have helped shape the specialty we practise today. These achievements reflect the dedication of our members and their shared commitment to improving emergency care for our patients.
As we look towards the future, we must recognise that the strength of Emergency Medicine lies not only in clinical expertise and innovation, but also in the people who deliver it. Emergency physicians work in demanding and unpredictable environments, making critical decisions while caring for patients at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Supporting these professionals is essential to the sustainability and quality of our specialty.
Our vision for the coming years is centred on three key priorities: recruitment, retention and training. We want to encourage talented doctors to choose Emergency Medicine as a career, create an environment in which our colleagues feel valued and supported throughout their professional lives, and continue to strengthen the quality of postgraduate training and professional development. By investing in our people, we invest in the future of emergency care in Malta.
We also believe that AEPM must remain an active, constructive and collaborative voice for our specialty. We will continue to engage with relevant institutions, professional organisations and healthcare stakeholders to advocate for high standards, meaningful training opportunities and a resilient, sustainable Emergency Medicine workforce. Our ambition is not simply to respond to the challenges we face today, but to help shape a stronger and more sustainable future for the generations of emergency physicians who will follow us.
Achieving these goals requires a collective effort. AEPM belongs to its members, and its strength comes from their participation, ideas, experience and willingness to work together. I encourage all emergency physicians, trainees and colleagues who share our commitment to the specialty to engage with the Association and contribute to its continued development.
I would like to thank the founding members, past presidents, successive councils and all our members for the foundations they have built and the work they continue to do. We have much to be proud of, but there is still more to achieve.
Together, let us build a resilient and sustainable Emergency Medicine workforce, strengthen our specialty and deliver the best possible care to the people who depend on us.
