AEPM press release on domestic violence.
Association of Emergency Physicians of Malta (AEPM) press release on domestic violence
The Association of Emergency Physicians of Malta (AEPM) would like to join the many concerned people who already expressed their zero tolerance to domestic violence and also expresses its solidarity with all victims.
Regrettably we continue to see too many such incidents in our line of work , some of which are not as obvious and news breaking.
As Emergency Physicians, we are on the frontline and deal with domestic abuse victims on a regular basis. They are victims of physical and psychological abuse. They are victims of all ages. They are victims of any gender. They are victims coming from all social strata. They are victims coming from all different cultural and racial origin. They are too many and too frequent but regrettably under reported by the victims because of their extreme fear of the perpetrator.
We therefore do join all the people who are voicing their ‘stop’ messages and urge all competent authorities, stakeholders and lawmakers to address the situation and ensure an adequate legal framework through which justice and support is better served.
