AEPM press release on Emergency Medicine Day
To the Maltese public
In this time of Covid-19, Emergency Medicine Physicians, nurses and technicians have been working round the clock to treat all patients, save lives and keep you safe.
Emergency Physicians are the experts in coping with disasters, organising under pressure the necessary equipment, people and materials to ensure that you, the public, get the treatment that you need. In those countries where the specialty of Emergency Medicine is established, we have seen a better and more effective response. Where there are adequate staff members, where the specialty is led by trained Emergency Physicians, the reception and treatment of patients has been smoother and the outcomes were better.
On this day, 27th May, throughout Europe, we are celebrating our specialty of Emergency Medicine and we are appealing to our government and you, the public, to continue to support the request for more trained specialists. In Malta, like many but not all other European countries, we are privileged to have the specialty of Emergency Medicine. We are, however, asking our government to continue to invest in us and resource our department with sufficient specialists, nurses, technicians and equipment to ensure we can keep you safe in any future pandemics or other disasters. We need the government’s support to enable us to adapt to new post Covid-19 health and safety working conditions which will in turn enable us to continue to treat you, the public, in the best possible way and ensure the best outcomes for you.
Finally, we, Emergency Specialists want to thank you –the Maltese public and government for recognizing our work and we look forward to more support from you towards our specialty. Help us to help you! Investing in us is investing in you!

F’dan iż-żmien ta’ Covid-19, it-tobba, infermiera u paramediċi tal-Emerġenza qegħdin jaħdmu bla heda sabiex jikkuraw il-pazjenti kollha, isalvaw il-ħajjiet u sabiex inżommukom il-bogħod mill-periklu.
It-Tobba tal-Emerġenza huma l-esperti li jistghu jittrattaw lin-nies waqt sitwazzjonijiet ta’ diżastri. Aħna l-ispeċjalisti li nafu kif norganizzaw irwieħna waqt dawn is-sitwazzjonijiet diffiċli sabiex niżguraw, kemm jista’ jkun, li naghtu lilkom, il-pubbliku, it-trattamenti kollha li jista’ jkollkom bżonn. Rajna li r-rispons għall-diżastri kien aħjar u iktar effettiv f’dawk il-pajjizi fejn l-ispeċjalita tal-Emerġenza hija stabbilita. Rajna illi fejn hemm biżżejjed membri tal-istaff immexxija minn nies mħarġa bħala Tobba tal-Emerġenza, il-pazjenti kienu moqdijin aħjar u r-riżultati kienu ferm aħjar.
Illum, is-27 ta’Mejju, mal-Ewropa kollha, qegħdin niċċelebraw l-ispeċjalita tagħna, tal-Mediċina tal-Emerġenza u qedgħin nappellaw lill-gvern u lilkom , il-pubbliku, sabiex tkomplu ittuna s-sapport sabiex ikollna iżjed speċjalisti f’dan il-qasam. F’Malta , bħal ħafna iżda mhux kull pajjiż fl- Ewropa, għandna l-privileġġ li għandna l-ispeċjalita tal-Mediċina tal-Emerġenza. Madankollu qegħdin nappellaw lill-gvern sabiex ikompli jinvesti fina u jagħtina iżjed riżorsi ta’ speċjalisti, infermiera, paramediċi, u izjed apparat ħalli nkunu nistghu inżommu lil kulhadd il-bogħod mill-periklu ,meta jkun hawn pandemiji jew diżastri oħra fil-futur. Għandna bzonn is-sapport tal-gvern sabiex naddattaw rwiħna għall-ħidma tagħna wara l-Covid-19 u nkomplu niżguraw l-aqwa saħħa għalikom.
Fl-aħħarnett, aħna, l-Ispeċjalisti tal-Emerġenza, nixtiequ nirringrazzjawkom – il-pubbliku u l-gvern Malti tar-rikonoxxament tagħkom għax-xogħol tagħna u qegħdin inħarsu ‘l quddiem għal iżjed sapport mingħandkom. Għinuna biex ngħinukom! Tinvestu fina, tinvestu fikom!
